Part 2 repairing drywall supplies.
Prepping drywall for tile.
If existing tiles are beyond repair remove the tile and install a piece of wallboard in its place.
Remove the tile and prepare the wall according to the corresponding instructions above or tile over the existing tile.
Repair any loose or cracked tiles.
2 x 2.
I too am preparing to tile a kitchen backsplash.
The top objective is to create a smooth and uniform surface on the drywall for the tile to be evenly placed.
I had a spare garbage handy so i could easily slide a lot of the rubble right from the ply wood into the garbage.
Mix thin set mortar according to the manufacturer s instructions and apply a thin coat over the fiberglass tape with a drywall knife.
If you want to update your kitchen or bathroom walls with tiles you don t have to remove existing painted.
Run the drywall knife over the mortar to create a smooth finish and remove any excess material.
Other times it s best to prepare because once you start there s no turning back.
Tiles are ideal for showers bathtubs and backsplashes.
The tiles really fly if you are doing it right and they get really sharp.
To do so make sure all of the tiles are intact and secure.
It helped protect the counters and appliances.
I also had a piece of scrap ply wood where i was working.
Would cement board be overkill or is tile on drywall perfectly ok.
Push the mortar through the mesh tape and into the 1 8 inch space between the backer board and the drywall.
Since i have yet to install drywall in the room i was considering using some form of cement board in place of drywall on the area of wall that would recieve tile thinking tile directly on drywall was not recommended.
