The real trick to protecting the carpet and keeping it away from the baseboard while you paint it is in how you tape off the carpet.
To better protect the carpet run another strip of packing tape next to the first and add a tarp to avoid paint splatters which will happen no matter how careful you are.
What you re doing is just getting the tape tucked in between the edge of the carpet and the trim.
Angle it so it pulls the carpet fibers away and gives you enough space to insert your paint brush follow the same process as above wash dry prime paint.
To keep carpet safe lay down masking or packing tape and slide it under your baseboard with a putty knife to prevent drips.
Painting baseboards with carpet can be quite easy if you have a steady hand and take the proper precautions to keep your carpet dry.
You can use a paint guard or metal sheet if you want an added layer of protection.
Taking steps to protect the carpet while you prep and paint the baseboard trim can prevent damage to the carpet.
Now take a putty knife or 5 in 1 tool and start working at one end and push the tape down.
Of tape running past the carpet that overlaps onto the baseboard.
