Sanding marks will be marks such as lines left by the granuales that are on the paper itself. Sanding levels the edges of the floorboards which can vary from one another by as much as 1 4 inch. These are easily taken care of by going progressivly to a finer grit. Using a sequence such as 40 60 100 would be a better sequence to eliminate sanding lines.

Using a worn sanding screen to sand between coats of finish can leave spiderweb like defects in floor finish. I was very upset after staining a section of the floor then noticing this i guess i should have used a light to inspect the floor first. The last floor i did which was by own i went down to 180 grit and finished it out with a 6 palm sander and 220 grit.
