I see that this thread is very old but i would like to ask the same question.
Live rock has been in 10 days some of my live rock has gone a lovely pink purple colour but a lot of it has gone a brown colour.
The red purple coloration is from coraline algae and the brown and stuff is just detrius material from growing bacteria and other living organisms on the rock.
Your live rock aquarium needs more light than a tank that only has fish because some.
Stay away messing with it too much will.
I have 55g tank with 75lbs of live rock with nova extreme t 5 fixtures w lunar lights.
Not sure why the others won t turn.

I know that the purple that happens to show up is corraline algae but don t know how to get me rocks that color.
I bought dry rock online and a few chunks of live rock to see from a guy in a local club.
Oh yea the majority of rock is very purple and pink so i was able to notice the orange color.
